Hello,
Pat returned today to help out in the class. She is continuing to work with kids on time and money. She also helps keep me sane when I'm getting worked up.
I had a bit of a rough day. A few things didn't go well, including being told that my car wasn't fixed today due to a technician calling in sick. My wife dropped me off at work this morning and will hopefully pick me up later, but it was all for nothing.
I also wasn't happy with a core group of kids not getting their homework done. We need to get back in the routine. Papers need to make it home, get completed, and make it back. A few repeat offenders took some notes home to be signed by parents. We need to nip it now.
While our government has been "working" our citizens have been getting ready to teach the class in something. We had a great presentation on diabetes just before the break. I'm looking forward to learning about cells, snowflakes and yo yo tricks tomorrow.
We watched a twenty minute episode of Liberty's Kids, a series about our country during the fight for independence. I have the whole series on DVD if anyone is interested in learning about the revolution. I only showed the last episode, which is about why our forefathers decided to write a new Constitution to replace the Articles of Confederation.
We had some great little skits illustrating some of our rights from our first ten amendments. Many kids focused on our right not to house soldiers. No searches without a warrant, was also a popular topic.
We are having homework club the next two Thursdays. I'm still waiting on my hoop schedule before I can announce any other future times. I'll keep it as consistent as possible.
Have a good night,
Mr. Shea
